Singapore's very own "Sydney Opera House",
Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay is the latest addition to
Singapore's skyline. Opened in 2002, the Esplanade is the performing
arts venue and has seen Box Office hits such as Mamma Mia,
Sound of Music, Madama Butterfly, etc. The Esplanade also
houses the Esplanade Mall, selling unique items such as hand-made
pottery and Japanese Tatami (only one in Singapore and first outside
Japan!) and even has a shop that lets you make your own bear. Also
at the Esplanade is Colours
By
the
Bay, a cluster of fine dining
restaurants with a wide selection of international cuisine, ranging
from Japanese to Thai to Mediterranean to Chinese Beijing.
Just across the Singapore River from the Esplanade, and a
short walk away is the Merlion Park - home to the majestic
Singapore icon: the Merlion. Half lion, half fish, the
Singapore Merlion proudly stands at the mouth of the Singapore
River, where it spouts forth a big flow of water as if it is
frolicking in the sea at the mouth of the river. Some even claim
that Singapore owns its international success to this iconic feng
shui dragon carp, with its flow of water brining in good fortune to
the country and its people.
A visit to Singapore will be complete once you have seen these
Singapore's very own icons and symbols, uniquely special to
Singapore: Lion City of Asia.
