8 Trivial Facts:

  1. Did you know that the southern-most point of Continental Asia is located in Singapore? It is on the southern-most tip of an islet connected to Sentosa.
     
  2. Singapore made its first expedition to Mount Everest and joined the list of countries that has its citizens submit the highest mountain in the world, in 1998. Its Expedition Leader was David Lim.
     
  3. Singapore has the largest man-made water fountain in the World, the Fountain of Wealth, located in Suntec City, Singapore's largest shopping, office and convention centre. Its five office buildings surround the Fountain of Wealth - from the air, the view looks like the palm of  a person's hands.
     
  4. Singapore once belonged to the Country of Malaysia, until it gained its independence in 1965. To this date, Singapore and Malaysia has a very close relationship and many Malaysians travel daily to Singapore to work.
     
  5. Singapore made history by being the first country in the world to have glass-bottomed cable cars in 1999.
     
  6. Singapore's very own "Sydney Opera House" is the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay.
     
  7. Singapore is known by many names: Singapura named by Sang Ni La Utama, Garden City, Lion City, one of the East Asian Tigers or one of Asia's Four Little Dragons.
     
  8. The story behind Singapore's One Dollar coin is that the coins are embedded with the shape of the Chinese "Ba-gua" or 8-Trigram to improve the "Feng Shui" or fortune of Singapore. Is this fact or local fiction?
